Frequently Asked Questions

Custom posters are still one of the most cost-effective ways to advertise events, products, and promotions. This FAQ covers sizes, paper choices, and how to design for posters that get noticed.

A3 (297mm x 420mm) is the workhorse for window displays, café notice boards, and event signage. A2 (420mm x 594mm) is the upgrade for higher visibility, and A1 (594mm x 841mm) is the standard for large indoor posters and exhibition graphics.
150gsm is the standard for indoor posters, sturdy enough not to flop but light enough to roll for delivery. 200gsm to 250gsm adds a premium feel for client-facing or framed posters. Above 250gsm and you're into card territory.
Gloss makes colours pop and is ideal for photo-heavy posters, but reflects light awkwardly in brightly-lit spaces. Matt reduces glare, looks more sophisticated, and is the better choice for text-heavy posters or anywhere with overhead lighting.
Yes, silk (sometimes called satin) sits between matt and gloss, offering slight sheen without the heavy reflection of gloss. Many printers offer it as a third standard option, and it's often the safest pick if you're unsure.

Digital prints are quicker and cost-effective for short runs (1–500 copies). Lithographic printing is set up for high volumes (1000+ copies) and gives slightly sharper image quality at higher resolutions, but with longer lead times.
Lithographic only beats digital on cost at 500+ copies of the same poster, since the setup cost is spread across the run. For multiple poster designs in low quantities, digital wins on both cost and turnaround.
Yes, recycled and FSC-certified paper stocks are available at 140–350gsm weights, suitable for most poster sizes.

Always CMYK. RGB files convert during printing, which can shift colours unpredictably, particularly bright blues and greens. If you're unsure, ask your designer to convert before sending the file.
Aim for 200–300dpi at the final print size. A common mistake is enlarging a 72dpi web image to A2 size, which produces visible pixelation. Always start with the highest-resolution source files available.
Headline text should be at least 80mm tall on an A2 poster to read clearly from 5–6 metres away. Body copy at 12–16mm works for closer reading. For posters meant to be seen from across a street, scale text up significantly.

Mount it onto a rigid backing board with spray adhesive or double-sided tape, or store rolled posters tightly in a tube until installation. Posters left flat in humid environments tend to ripple — flat-pack delivery and prompt mounting helps.
Rolled in a cardboard tube in a dry, room-temperature environment. Avoid sharp folds, direct sunlight, and damp spaces, all three damage paper posters quickly. Most rolled posters stay in good condition for years if stored properly.
Use removable mounting putty or low-tack double-sided tape on the back corners for short-term wall mounting. For longer use, mount the poster onto a foam board or use a poster frame. Avoid drawing pins, which leave permanent holes.
