Frequently Asked Questions

Brochures are still the workhorse marketing tool for corporate sales, product showcases, and detailed services. This FAQ covers binding choices, page counts, sizing, and design.

Leaflets are typically single sheets, folded or flat. Booklets are bound documents with multiple pages. Brochure is the umbrella term used for both, but most often refers to bound or folded marketing materials with multiple pages or panels.
Depends on content depth: 8–16 pages suits product overviews, 24–40 pages for full catalogues, and 60+ pages for in-depth annual reports or magazines. Page counts in saddle-stitched brochures must be in multiples of four.
A4 (210mm x 297mm) and A5 (148mm x 210mm) are the most common, fitting standard mailing systems and document holders. Square brochures (210mm x 210mm) are popular for premium designs.

Saddle stitching works for under 64 pages, perfect binding is the choice for thicker bound brochures (40+ pages), wiro binding lays flat for reference manuals, and PUR binding gives premium durability for high-end catalogues.
Saddle stitching uses staples through a folded spine, cheaper, faster, and lays relatively flat. Perfect binding uses glue along a flat spine — more premium, allows printed spine text, but doesn't open fully flat. Both have their place depending on page count and budget.

A common rule is twice the weight: 130gsm inners with a 250gsm cover, or 150gsm inners with a 300gsm cover. This ratio gives a substantial cover feel that protects the lighter inner pages.
Lamination protects covers from scuffing and fingerprints, especially important for client-facing or premium brochures. Matt lamination feels premium; gloss lamination boosts colour vibrancy. For brochures with extended shelf life, lamination is almost always worth the small upcharge.
Silk is the all-purpose choice, slight sheen, no glare, suits both photos and text. Gloss is better for photo-heavy product catalogues. Uncoated is preferred for text-heavy or premium design-led brochures where a tactile, paper-like feel matters.

Adobe InDesign is the industry standard for multi-page documents. Affinity Publisher is a strong, more affordable alternative. Avoid Word or PowerPoint for anything destined for professional printing — they don't handle bleed, colour profiles, or pagination reliably.
Inconsistent margins and pagination breaks. Brochures with text running too close to spine or trim edges look amateurish. Use a consistent grid system across all pages, and keep critical content at least 10mm inside the trim edge.
Typical first runs: 500 for niche B2B audiences, 1000–2500 for trade show distribution, 5000+ for direct mail campaigns. Order based on a realistic 6–12 month usage forecast.
