Frequently Asked Questions

A4 booklets are the standard size for corporate reports, product catalogues, and detailed marketing pieces. This FAQ covers cover options, binding limits, and design strategies for the larger format.

A4 matches the size of every other business document, letterheads, contracts, reports, so A4 booklets fit naturally alongside other materials in client packs, filing systems, and mailings. It's also the size most designers and printers are most efficient at producing.
A4 catalogues showcase products at near life-size for many smaller items, which is a sales advantage. For directories and product reference catalogues, A4 is ideal. For pocket-sized take-home catalogues, A5 or DL works better.
When the booklet needs to be portable, posted economically, or read on the move. A4 fits awkwardly in handbags and most pockets, weighs more in the post, and isn't designed for reading while standing. For those cases, A5 is usually the better choice.

A 250gsm to 350gsm cover is standard for A4 booklets. Lighter covers (170–200gsm) feel flimsy at A4 size, while heavier covers (over 350gsm) add cost without much practical benefit for most uses.
130gsm silk or gloss is the all-purpose choice for marketing A4 booklets, balancing print quality and cost. For premium catalogues, 150gsm gives a more substantial feel. For directories and reference material, 100gsm uncoated keeps weight and cost down.
A 24-page A4 booklet on 130gsm inners with a 250gsm cover weighs around 130g. A 48-page version weighs roughly 220g.

For A4 booklets over 80 pages, perfect binding is the most reliable choice. For thinner A4 booklets, saddle stitching is fine but use longer staples than standard to ensure they hold the full width of the spine cleanly.
Around 60 pages on standard 130gsm paper. Above that, saddle-stitched A4 booklets start to bulge and won't close flat. Perfect binding handles 60–400+ pages cleanly with a flat spine you can print on.

Digital print runs (up to ~500 copies) typically take 3–5 working days. Litho runs (500+ copies) usually take 7–10 working days because of plate setup and binding queue time. Express services can compress timelines for an additional charge.
Usually 500+ copies. Below that, digital wins on speed and cost; above that, lithographic printing offers better per-unit pricing and arguably sharper print quality.
